Minimal Audio's Current gets a lot of love for EDM-focused music. But it has each of the necessary features needed to make all kinds of inspiring pads and atmospheres. I was stoked to find out that it could do cinematic pads so well! If you add up all of the powerful effects and the modulation system that's on-board, in addition to being able to import your own audio for granular effects, you have a very well-rounded instrument that looks hot, sounds cool, and is fun to program. That being said, if someone is on a budget, you can also make beautiful, evolving pads with Vital and some decent wavetables. If you don't make your own, Luftrum has a wavetable pack specifically for pads with 150 tables for $15 at https://www.luftrum.com/wavetables/ Following up Vital with a quality effect like Valhalla DSP's Supermassive (which is free), will get you to deep space vibes within a couple of clicks.
