How many artists would happily use samples of older tracks without any credit if they could get away with it ?
I'm not saying that tech giants (hint: it's not just the giants, it's the 'entrepreneurial' spirit) are not doing 'unethical' things - they do every day, and people just don't see it as obviously, but what you're looking at is human nature and the lure of 'free'.
It seems it's unethical to steal from the hidden folk, but less so as the target becomes more famous - but then you just have to worry about 'law' rather than ethics, right ?
Yes, using anything from anyone without consent is unethical. AI is absolutely bringing this to the forefront. However, it's not new - it's just easier and more visible.
