Samplers, Sampling & Sample Libraries • Quality Implications of Recording Streamed Audio from Splice Player for Use in Music Production? Splice

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to understand some technical aspects of the use of recorded streamed audio in music production. Actually, I want to confirm my understanding and reasoning about potential quality loss when recording audio samples directly from Splice's playback player, rather than downloading the original files.

My understanding is that when audio is played back through the Splice app player, it is likely compressed for streaming purposes, similar to how YouTube uses AAC format to encode files with a bitrate of up to 192 kbps. I'm not certain about the exact compression method used by Splice, But I suspect it operates in a similar manner, resulting in a reduced bitrate.

Recording the Streamed Audio: If I were to record this playback (rather than downloading the original sample), I assume I would introduce another layer of potential degradation. This would include compression artifacts from the stream, plus any additional loss during the recording process.

Impact on High-End Systems: Given that high-end audio systems (e.g., 10k+ systems) are highly revealing of audio quality, I think any degradation caused by streaming compression and recording would be especially noticeable, which will lead to a poor listening experience in a professional environment or a large venue where your track is expected to be played

To me , this is similar to using audio downloaded from YouTube, where the audio is heavily compressed for streaming. And there it is a big no to use them for professional music production due to the loss of detail and introduction of compression artifacts.

Finally, Am I correct in assuming that recording streamed audio from Splice could lead to significant quality loss, particularly when the final product is played on high-end audio systems?

Very important: This is purely a technical question, focused on understanding the process and its effects. The method discussed should only be applied to files you have the legal right to use. Before addressing legal concerns, please note that I do not condone the misuse of content you do not own. The aim here is to technically understand what happens when you apply the process mentioned in the thread and how it might impact the quality of the produced music.
