I do see your point. You are right. When layers and especially complex modulation is used all this can be overwhelming indeedThat depends on how you work. I almost always start from a preset and modify it to the needs of the song/part. Most of DUNE's presets use multiple layers, even though they often don't make any difference to the sound, but that can still make working out what the f**k is going on much, much harder than it needs to be. So, rather than put up with that, it's easier to reach for another instrument that isn't going to make me jump through those hoops to get what I want. Of course, that will often mean sacrificing a bit of ultimate sound quality but in the context of a mix, that's an easy compromise to live with.You can use the synth as regular just with 8 unison like repro.
